Dear Reader,
The theme, from the Book Flyte, that I chose to use was betrayal. This theme shows up quit a few times within the book. The main character, Septimus Heap, is betrayed by his own brother. His brother, Simon, turns evil and kidnaps their sister, who is also the queen-to-be of their homeland. Simon wanted to get rid of his sister so he could become the ruler of his homeland. Septimus must rely on his friends and family to help him get to the Badlands to save his sister and get rid of his brother Simon. I want to show everyone how the theme of betrayal shows up in the story. I will discuss the theme using characters from the book. Also, there will be example of scenery and situations that occurred in the book that I use in the post.
Sincerely,
Mark Daniels

I have taken your precious daughter. I have taken her back with me to the Badlands . I will dispose of her if all of my demands are not met. First of all, your son Septimus must be removed as the apprentice so I may have the position. Secondly, Jenna may not take her position as queen. I will be taking over at king of our homeland. If my demands are not met soon I will dispose of her.

A man wearing a black cloak came into the castle yesterday. He was riding a large black horse and seemed to be in a hurry. He looked like an odd man, but had a strange fire in his eyes as if to say I had a mission I will not fail. I had never seen him before that day and I had heard a lot of people at the tavern talking about this man. It had been about an hour until a saw him again, but he went the same way he came. Riding just as fast as he was when he first came into the castle. Except this time he had someone with him. I could not really tell who it was, but it looked like a young girl. She resembled our princess. Later that night I went out and heard gossip that the princess had been kidnapped. They said it was a man on a large black horse that took her. Now I was for certain that it was her on the back of that horse. I wish I would have stopped the man so I could have save her. I hope somebody finds her and she returns safely.

Reflection:
The first genre I chose was the Ransom note. In the book Simon kidnaps his sister Jenna. So this made sense to do to symbolize his demands for the safe return of Jenna. If they weren’t met he would kill his own sister. The second genre I chose was an eyewitness account. It was by the ghost Alther who saw Simon enter and leave the castle. He described what Simon looked like and when he kidnapped Jenna. The third genre I chose was a wanted poster. It was for the arrest of Simon after he had taken Jenna. The forth and final genre I chose was Ten ways to know something. I chose to use my theme of betrayal. I described ten ways to tell how you have been betrayed. Overall I thought this was a good project to help understand what happened in the book. Also it was a very easy project. I have had a time where I thought I would not be able to finish this in time.
